William Porter Cochrane, Sr., 90, of 476 John Lane Road, Bear Creek died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Mr. Cochrane was born in Mecklenburg County on June 29, 1922 the son of Robert Bryce and Maybelle (Porter) Cochrane. Mr. Cochrane was an Army veteran of WWII and had worked as an engineer with AT&T phone service. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Ruby (Townsend) Cochrane of the home; one daughter: Mary Katherine Cochrane Hamm of Bear Creek, NC and two sons: Richard Stephen Cochrane and, Merle Mullen Cochrane of Waxhaw, NC, William Porter Cochrane, Jr. and Teresa Boyd Cochrane of Southern Pines, NC; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 10:00-10:45 AM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Roach and Don Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte at 3:15 PM.
