William Colon Brown, 87, of 900 Joe Brown Road, Bear Creek died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Mr. Brown was born in Chatham County on March 23, 1925 the son of Benjamin Franklin and Ina (Bray) Brown.
He was retired from Townsends, Inc., A member of Oakley Baptist Church, where he served on the pulpit committee, as a Deacon and member of Pauline Powers Friendship Sunday school class. Colon will be remembered for his love of horses, where for 27 years he went to the Denton July 4th celebration doing horse power demonstrations and the Silk Hope Old Fashion Day. He loved giving hay rides to the children and loved traveling to visit the Amish country. Colon loved and enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two bsisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Inez (Jessup) Brown, three daughters: Jan B. Clark and husband, Tom of Bear Creek, NC, Peggy B. Mora and husband, Dean of Vass, NC, Bonnie B. Caviness and husband, Joel of Bennett, NC; one son: James C. Brown and wife, Becky of Bear Creek, NC; two brothers: Coy A. Brown of Siler City, NC and Norman J. Brown of Bennett, NC; grandchildren, Jesse and wife, Shannon, Alex, Tyler, Lauren and Trent.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City with Rev. Eddie Ellison and Rev. J. R. Bouldin officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
