Wilbur Joseph Porter, 82, of Siler City died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Mr. Porter was born February 8, 1934, in Horry County, South Carolina, the son of Lance Chandus and Annie Thelma Cartrette Porter.
He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and worked in textiles as a production manager. Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Brenda Gail Porter, granddaughter, Melissa Ann Dixon, sister, Anna Marie Fowler, brothers, Leo Porter and Lance Chandus Porter, Jr., and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, where in March of this year would have been married for 65 years, Frances Jean Porter, of the home, daughter: Cindy Dixon and husband, Eddie of Siler City, son: Greg Porter and wife, Kim of Siler City, grandchildren; Amanda D. Thompson and husband, Josh, Charles Adam Dixon and wife, Sophia, Ethan Porter, great-grandchildren Kayla Dixon Dakota Dixon, Taylor Thompson, Logan Thompson and brother; Levi Porter and wife, Alice of Tabor City.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 30, 2017 from 6 - 8 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC, and other times at the home of the daughter. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, Siler City with Dr. William Browder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites.
