Wallace Copeland Ellis, 93, of Siler City died Saturday, March 7, 2015 at his home. Mr. Ellis was born on July 3, 1921, in Pittsboro and was the son of Jodie and Mamie Copeland Ellis. He was an Army veteran of WW II, and received the Purple Heart for active duty in the European Theater in 1943. He was retired from Atlantic Greyhound and spent his later years farming and raising cattle, He enjoyed his vegetable garden each year and willing shared his crop and took pride in watching it grow. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred and siblings Arthur, Andrew and Luther,Lilla, Inez, Zip and Estelle. He is survived by daughter, Betty Hackney and husband, Al of Whiteville, NC; one son, Doug Ellis and his wife Lin of Bear Creek; one brother, Bob Ellis and wife Edna of Stedman, NC; two grandchildren; Susanna Nunn of Kernersville, and Jay Hackney of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; four great-grandchildren; Amanda and Brad Nunn and Holly and Mathew Hackney. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City, with Chaplain Tom Barton officiating. The Randolph County Honor Guard will provide military rites. Memorials may be made to Chatham County Council of Aging, 112 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344. The family would like to express their gratitude to devoted caregivers Karen, Sara, Jill, Carmen, Anissa, Deborah, Julia, Faye, Frances, and Janet who lovingly cared for him and brought sunshine to his life when he could not see.
