Virgil Jackson Rives, 96, of Bear Creek died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Rives was born in Chatham County on January 5, 1920 the son of Carl Jackson and Emma Eliza (Gilmore) Rives. Virgil was a member of Antioch Christian Church. He was the vocational education teacher for several years, sharing his skills with many young carpenters.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Rives Stone.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Virginia (Peace) Rives; two sons: Jackie Rives and wife, Susan of Bear Creek, Larry Rives of Sanford; three brothers: June Rives of Salisbury, Foster Rives of Bear Creek, Wayne Rives and wife, Ava of Siler City; grandchildren, Preston and Aaron Rives, Mary Maness and husband, Bernie; great-grandson, Nicholas Maness.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Meroney United Methodist Church Cemetery, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Mike Harper officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday after the service in the fellowship hall.
