Versie Jessup Bray, 101, of West Third Street, Siler City died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Genesis Health Care-Siler City Center. Mrs. Bray was born in Stokes County on January 2, 1917 the daughter of Erastus and Ella (Gammons) Jessup. Versie was the oldest member of Brush Creek Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and on numerous other committees. She retired from A. J. Schneierson after 28 years of service as a training supervisor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 79 years, Clestor Bray; her parents; brothers, Monroe (Smokie) Jessup (Virginia), Cleo Jessup (Doris), Bill Jessup (Martha), Aubrey Jessup; sisters, Gladys Clark (Henry) and Ruby Jessup.
Versie is survived by daughters: Jane Carol Crump of Matthews and Sheila B. Rose (David) of Glen Allen, VA; son: Gregory G. Bray of Bennett; sister: Betty Nunally (James) of Siler City; grandchildren, Lisa Sikes (Mike), Michael Bray (Kristen), Jerry Bray and Jennifer Bray; great-grandchildren, Cole Shipe, Corey, Cody and Chad Sikes.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev, Frank Taylor and Rev. Ed Lowder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
