Vernon Paul Elkins

Vernon Paul Elkins, 85, of 172 Elkins Lane, Sanford died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Mr. Elkins was born in Moore County on November 13, 1926 the son of Wade H. and Mary Belle (Oldham) Elkins. He was a member and Elder of Horseshoe Presbyterian Church, a Navy veteran of WWII and retired from the NC Department of Transportation Highway Department. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife: Veleria (Hough) Elkins, one daughter: Ann E. Keck and husband, Wayne of Bear Creek, NC and one son: Stephen Elkins of Cameron; grandchildren, Crystal Elkins of Cameron, NC;, Paula Barrows and husband, Chris of Bear Creek, NC; great-grandchildren, Reagan and Kaitlyn Barrows of Bear Creek, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 6:30-8:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and at other times at the family home. The funeral will be Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Horseshoe Presbyterian Church, 1540 S. Carbonton Road, Sanford with Rev. David Hicks officiating.
