Vera Lawson Dowd

Vera Lawson Dowd, 98, of Siler City died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Siler City Center. Mrs. Dowd was born August 1, 1916 in Stokes County, NC the daughter of James R. and Flora (Lankford) Lawson. Mrs. Dowd was preceded in death by her husband, Wrenn Dowd; her parents; sisters, Anna Booth, Mamie Corder, Pauline Jessup, Verlie Booth; brothers, Henry Lawson, Ray Lawson, Joe Lawson and Otis Lawson; and her son-in-law, Larry Shelton Lineberry. Mrs. Dowd was retired from A J Schneirson & Sons, Siler City. She was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church, Siler City where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Dowd was an avid reader and gardener while her health permitted.. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-granchildren, especially cooking for them. She daily lived out her faith in her Lord. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Dowd Lineberry of Siler City; one grandson, Jeffrey S. Lineberry and wife, Heidi of Siler City; one granddaughter, Amber Lineberry Spach of Siler City; one great-granddaughter, Shelby Rae Spach, and great-grandsons, Benjamin, Joshua, and Andrew Lineberry. The family will receive friends Friday, November 21, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, after which the funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel.
