Ulys Medford Cook, 90, of Siler City died Thursday, May 3, 2018 at FirstHealth Hospice Palliative Care, Pinehurst.
Mr. Cook was born in Chatham County on January 21, 1928 the son of Jasper Lee and Nora Bell (Hall) Cook. Ulys was an Army Veteran, retired from the US Postal Service as a rural carrier and member at South Fork Friends Meeting. He was active in civic and community activities including; Silk Hope Ruritan Club with over 50 years of service, a member of American Legion Post 81, a retired Silk Hope Volunteer Fireman and a member of Charlie's Music Barn.
A gifted musician he enjoyed Bluegrass and Gospel Music. He also found pleasure in hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Ulys was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bill, Calvin, Elbert, Ray, and Sam Cook; Locksley Tillman and an infant Caleb Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Kathleen Jones Cook; one daughter: Joan Cook Harris and husband, Lon; two sons: Rocky Cook and wife, Phyllis, Elton Cook and wife, Sandra all of Siler City; one sister: Nora Lee Cook of Siler City, NC; one brother: Claude Cook and wife, Inez of Bonlee, NC; grandchildren, Phillip Cook and wife, Kris, Beverly Cook Fields, Andrea Smith, Rodney Cook and wife, Natasha, Chris Cook and wife, Ginger, Heather Brown and husband, Chris, Christine Presley and husband, John, Lonnie Harris and wife, Katie; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Monday, May 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM at South Fork Friends Meeting, 359 South Fork-Bethel Road, Snow Camp with Andrew Needham and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will follow in Big Meadows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Health Hospice and Palliative Care or the Silk Hope Ruritan Club.
