Tommie Gene Burke, 79, of, Emerald Isle, formerly of Siler City died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Burke was born in Chatham County on November 24, 1933 the son of Eugene Goldston and Nannie Mildred (Pendergrass) Burke. Tommie managed the local Western Auto Store for 30 years and was a veteran of the Marines. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City, former active member of the Siler City Fire Department, serving as a Captain and Assistant Chief. Tommie was also active in the Siler City Rotary Club, the Rescue Squad and the Chatham County Wildlife Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved traveling and camping. Tommie was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife: Ada Jo (Boren) Burke, one daughter: Laurie Burke Clendenen and five sons: Tommie Boren Burke, Ben Eugene Burke, Mark Wheeler Burke, Jonathan B. Burke, Travis Gray Burke; two sisters: Ann Burke Braxton and Sara Burke Stultz; grandchildren, Christopher Travis Baker, Sara Ashley Baker, Elizabeth Boren Burke, Chelsea Rene' Burke, Scott Wheeler Burke, Emily Liane Burke, Jonathan Gray Burke, Morgan Gray Burke, Jessica Lynn Burke, Nolan Rayman Burke, Grayson Truitt Burke, Sophia Barbee Burke; step-grandchild, Miriam Therese Tait; step-great-grandchild, Serena Anne Walters.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. A graveside service will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Oakwood Cemetery, N. Chatham Ave, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating.
