Toby Jane Billings
On the afternoon of January 17, 2016 at 1:30 PM Toby went to be with our Lord. She was being cared for and loved by the staff of Siler City Nursing and Rehab. Toby, 86, was very active in the nursing home.
Toby was born in Siler City on May 13, 1929 where she attended school for eleven years without missing any days. When she was a teenager she helped deliver babies in the old Chatham Hospital.
The words people use to describe Toby are pistol, "something else", tenacious. She might have been disabled but if she needed something she always had a way to get it, whether be a TV or a calendar. She could do more with a phone than most people can do with a car.
Toby Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis K. Billings; her parents, Joseph S. and Edna Beaver Maness; brothers, Joseph Maness, Jr. and Samuel Maness.
Toby Jane is survived by a son, Danny Wayne Bashum of South Carolina; daughter, Jackie Jo of Kentucky; sister, Peggy Gilbert of Colorado; cousins, Dixie Smith, Nancy Marley, Mary Lee Brown, Ruby Snyder, Zadie Meyers.
The funeral will be Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Siler City Center Activities Fund, 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City, NC 27377. This is where Toby was happiest for the past few years.
