Thomas Horace Moody, 90, of Old US Hwy 421, Bear Creek died Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at First-Health Hospice Palliative Care, Pinehurst.
Mr. Moody was born in Chatham County on July 5, 1924 the son of Willie Murk and Cora (Dunn) Moody. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and retired from Bradshaw Supply after 21 years of service as warehouse manager. Tom was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, and a teacher. He also served on several other committees including organizing a group that furnished emergency relief supplies to the Red Springs area after tornado destruction. Tom enjoyed fresh water and surf fishing, hunting and sports, especially softball. He enjoyed farming and loved the Atlanta Braves. Tom taught his grandchildren cat fishing and was a caregiver for his mother. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eva Bare, Lois Stollings, Margie Blalock and brother, Clarence Moody.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Virginia (Sipe) Moody; daughters: Patricia M. Butt and husband, Robert of Oak Island, NC, Norma Moody Faulk and husband, Ronald of Southern Pines, NC, Nancy M Lindley and husband, Darryle of Snow Camp, NC; brother: Earle Moody and wife, Sandra of Vass, NC; sister: Lucille Moody and husband, Jimmy of Bear Creek, NC; sister- in- law, Betty Moody of Siler City; grandchildren, Shane Pegram, Thomas Cooney, Jr.;, Mary E Maynard, Jamie Gilliland, Chris Gilliland; great-grandchildren, Jacob Gilliland, Jenna Gilliland and Madison Coston.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 13, 2015 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Marc Sanders and Rev. Stephanie Moody Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
