Shirley Mashburn Childress Smith

Shirley Grace Childress Smith, 88, of Winnabow, died Monday, March 6, 2023.

Shirley was born in Lee County on April 15, 1934, the daughter of Lillie Bell Oldham and Matthew M. Mashburn.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Carbonton United Methodist Church. She spent many years working as a dye stamper with Moen. Shirley enjoyed gardening and when she wasn’t outside, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, playing games on her tablet, and coloring. She loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Eddie H. Smith; grandson, Bryant Alexander Childress; and seven siblings.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters: Sherion Campbell and husband, Billy of Juno Beach FL, and Connie Thompson and husband, Junior of Greensboro; sons: Donnie Childress of Richmond VA, and Jay Childress and wife, Kathleen of Winnabow, NC; brother: David Mashburn of Eustis, FL; grandchildren: Chris Campbell, Renee Campbell Early and husband Mike, Kristy Childress, Dianna Rodriguez and husband, Marcelo, Michelle Thompson, Michael Thompson and wife, Brittny, and Justin Childress and wife Brittany; and great grandchildren: Harry Morgan, Gavin Campbell, Spencer Campbell, Fatimah Straughn, Bankx Straughn, Morgan Thompson, Myles Thompson, Rhyan Belle Stromp, Easton Childress, Hunter Grace Childress, Dayva Rodriguez, Gracie Bridges, and Lucy Belle Bridges.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N 2nd Ave., Siler City, and other times at the home of her grandson Justin Childress 3217 Roberts Chapel Church Road, Goldston. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Carbonton United Methodist Church 5442 Goldston Carbonton Rd. Goldston NC 27252 with Rev. Edwin Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
