Sarah Elizabeth Johnson McPherson, 98, of Snow Camp went home, peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at The Laurels Of Chatham, Pittsboro.
Mrs. McPherson was born in Chatham County on April 2, 1917 the daughter of William Ernest and Emily Elizabeth (Ward) Johnson. Sarah was a member of Rock Creek United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served as a delegate to the annual United Methodist Conference. She had served as a Democratic judge during elections, was a Farmers Market Vendor in Greensboro and a delegate to the North Carolina Farm Bureau Convention. Sarah enjoyed painting, gardening, and basket weaving. She was a hard working farmer's wife, who was a vibrant active member of her community.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe McPherson; brothers, Leon and Wade Johnson; an infant great-granddaughter, Adalynn Dunn.
She is survived by two sons: William McPherson (Aileen) of Graham, NC, Ward McPherson (Cyndi) of Asheboro; two daughters: Foy Johnson (Keith) of Snow Camp, NC, Lois McPherson of Manassas, VA grandchildren, Wendy Bray (Anthony) of Snow Camp, NC, Jason Dunn (Amy) of Snow Camp, NC, Nathaniel Johnson of Snow Camp, NC; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Jaiden, and Ali; brother, Paul Johnson; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 19, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. and at other times at the home of the daughter, 7308 Bass Mt. Road, Snow Camp. The funeral will be Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Rock Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, 7315 Mount Herman-Rock Creek Road, Snow Camp with Rev. Richard Booker, Rev. Nancy Sturdivant, Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
