Ruth Gaines Carty

Ruth Gaines Carty, 88, of Siler City, formerly of Raleigh, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 15, 2018.

Mrs. Carty was born in Chatham County on December 27, 1929 the daughter of Carl Roe Gaines, Sr. and Laura (Stinson) Gaines.

Ruth was a 1947 graduate of Goldston High School, a retired telephone operator, a homemaker and had volunteered for several years with Wake Memorial Hospital. Ruth was involved in social and professional activities with the WRAL family. She enjoyed her volunteer work, gardening and reading. Ruth was a member of the Raleigh Catholic Diocese. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Del" Francis Carty; her parents, sisters, Josephine Brewer, Gola Hunter, Cora Tillman, Kate Wilkie; brothers, Victor, David, George and Carl Gaines, Jr.

Ruth is survived by three sisters: Myrtle G. Wilkie of Goldston, Iola G. Phillips and husband, Bruce of Lexington and Joyce G. Wicker and husband, Jack of Sanford; three brothers: Hubert Gaines and wife, Peggy of Carthage, Homer Gaines and wife, Toni of Atlanta, Georgia and Eddie Gaines and wife, Elaine of Siler City.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 19, 2018 from 10:00-11:00AM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jack Leszczynski, OFMCconv. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
