Ruby Willette Andrew, 96, of Asheboro, formerly of Siler City, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Hospice of Randolph County, Asheboro.
Mrs. Andrew was born at home in Bear Creek on October 30, 1919, the daughter of the late Austin and Callie (Brooks) Willette.
She was a native of Chatham County. Ruby and her husband A. J. were the owners/operators of Friendly Cleaners and The Sewing Basket. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and was a people person. Ruby was a graduate of Goldston High School and the last surviving member of her class and also a graduate of Burlington Business School. Ruby enjoyed working in her flowers and crafts. She was an active member of Siler City Chapel and attended as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, A. J. Andrew; two brothers, Theron and Curry Willette; a sister, Betty Jean Caviness; grandsons, Jimmy Cotner and Kenneth Wilson, son-in-law, Jimmy Underwood.
She is survived by three daughters: Carolyn A. Cotner (Thomas) of Siler City; Kay A. Ellison (Jim) of Asheboro and Ruth A. Underwood of Burlington; a sister, Virginia W. Coley (Bobby) of Asheboro; grandchildren Debbie Chriscoe (James), Mark Ellison (Tori), Karen Moss (Brian), Ron Wilson (Sharon) and Steve Wilson; great-grandchildren, Riley Culberson (Candace), Ricky Culberson (Rebecca), Janice Chriscoe, Will and Troy Moss, Morgan, Natalie, Corey, Seth, Noah and Lucy Wilson; great-great-grandchildren; Owen and Haley Culberson, sister-in-law, Betty Willette of Siler City.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will follow on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Gary Mason and Dr. Mark Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.
