Ruby Hancock Hammer, 91, of Siler City died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
Mrs. Hammer was born in Chatham County on February 23, 1921 the daughter of George Graham and Mossie (Wilson) Hancock. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She had worked for A J Schneierson and Sons and retired from Byrd's Food Stores where she managed the deli department. Ruby enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Vernon Hammer and a brother, Roy Hancock.
She is survived by one son: Garrett Hammer and wife, Carol of Siler City, NC; five sisters: Beulah Hammer of Goldston, NC, Augusta Gilliland of Goldston, NC, Joyce Headen of Siler City, NC, Jearline Brown of Bennett, NC, Linda Jones of Pleasant Garden, NC; grandchildren, Paula Goodson and husband, David of Wake Forest, NC, Craig Hammer and wife, Sheila of Siler City, NC, Jody Hammer of Siler City, NC; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Taylor Goodson, Bryce, Connor and Garrison Hammer.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 10, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and other times at the home of the son. The funeral will be Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston with Rev. Barry Lawrence and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
