Robert Howard "Whitey" Poe

Robert Howard "Whitey" Poe, 55, of Silk Hope Road, Siler City died Monday, February 29, 2016. Mr. Poe was born in Chatham County on August 31, 1960 the son of Howard G. and Barbara Jean (Stinson) Poe. He was a 1979 graduate of Jordan Matthews High School and was employed by Hardin's Florist as a delivery driver. Whitey was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, field sports, water sports and traveling. Some of his greatest pleasures were times spent with family and watching his children play ball. He is survived by one daughter: Madison Elizabeth Poe; one son: Zachary James Poe both of Siler City; parents, Howard "Junie" and Barbara (Stinson) Poe of Siler City; two sisters: Rhonda Poe Stevens and husband, Jeff of Ramseur, Donna Poe Owensby and husband, Gary of Siler City; two brothers: Michael Poe and wife, Cheryl of Bear Creek, Steven Doug Poe of Siler City; significant other, Sherry Johnson Allen. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 2, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and other times at the home of his parents. The funeral will be Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM at South Fork Friends Meeting, 359 South Fork-Bethel Road, Snow Camp with Rev. Rodney Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City. The family wishes to express their appreciation to everyone for their support and prayers, especially, Lora Nixon and Denise Scott.
