Robert G Hancock

Robert G. Hancock, 86, of 2381 South Chatham Avenue, Siler City died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his home. Mr. Hancock was born in Chatham County on October 19, 1925 son of Robert Glenn and Cora Etta Elkins Hancock. Robert was past president and Treasurer of Tri Angle Plywood and foreman for Hancock Lumber Company. He was a graduate of Old Wake Forest and attended N C State University. Robert was a graduate of Goldston High School, a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Walter Brewer Sunday school class. Robert was a founding member of the Siler City Country Club and a member of the Siler City Jaycees. He loved playing golf and was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Mathews Hancock and daughter, Gloria. He is survived by one son: Charles Robert Bob) Hancock and wife, Polly of Bear Creek, NC; one sister: Doris H. Allen and husband, Bob of Ramseur, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Johnson, Melissa Hancock, Christopher Hancock, Heather Seagroves, Shelly Rainey Keith, Hugh Douglas Rainey, II, Robert Dow Rainey and six; great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC and at other times at the family home. The funeral will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.
