Rev. John Leonard "JL" Shoun, Jr

Rev. John Leonard Shoun, Jr., "JL" 90, of Siler City died Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Coventry House Of Siler City. Mr. Shoun was born in Campbell County, Tennessee on July 2, 1925 the son of John L. Shoun, Sr. and Laura Belle (Murphy) Shoun, JL was the only boy in a family with ten sisters. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He served as a pastor in Tennessee for several years and also served as the Association Director of Missions. JL served at Rives Chapel Baptist twice during 1960's and 1970's. JL was preceded in death by his parents; sons, John and Timothy Shoun; grandson, Kalen Hagedorn and his sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Raye (Pilley) Shoun; sons: Peter Shoun and wife, Penny of Siler City, NC, James Shoun and wife, Donna of Knoxville, TN; daughters: Lisa Lyons of St Petersburg, FL, Tina Gibbs of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Robin, Damien, Jared, Joey, Abbey, Cassidy, John Logan and Will; great-grandchildren, David, Isaiah, Liam. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The family will also receive friends Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 5:00 – 7: 00 PM at Cross- Smith Funeral Home in LaFollette, Tennessee. The funeral will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Duane Mills officiating. Interment will be Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Bakers Forge Cemetery, LaFollette, TN. Memorials may be made to the Missions Funds at Emmaus Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, Rives Chapel Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of LaFollette, TN.
