Melvin Grady Womble, age 82, of Siler City died Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Womble was born in Chatham County on September 12, 1936, to the late James A. and Nannie Hart Womble. He served in the United States Army with a stint in Germany. He retired from the water plant of Siler City after 20 years of service, he was also a licensed insurance agent. Mr. Womble was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents Mr. Womble was preceded in death by his brother, Bryant Womble.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cora Lee Cave Womble; daughters, Theresa W. Joyner and husband Jimmy and Melva W. Cleary and husband Sean; and brother, Earl Womble and wife Louise; sister-in-law, Rachel Womble; grandchildren, Jimmy Joyner III and Logan Joyner; his precious companion, Blackie; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Smith and Buckner Chapel with Rev. Tripp Foltz officiating. Burial will follow in Rives Chapel Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
