Mary Stinson Ward

Mary Stinson Ward, 86, of Staley died Sunday, January 25, 2015. Mrs. Ward was born in Chatham County on September 7, 1928, the daughter of Delphus H. and Jennie (Benner) Stinson. She was a homemaker, Farmer's wife, and a Postal Clerk. Mary was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, a former Sunday School Teacher, member of the UMW, a Trustee and had been involved with the youth group. She also held several offices within the Methodist Conference, and was a 4 H Leader. Mary loved being with her children and grandsons. She was a 1947 graduate of Bonlee High School, a school bus driver and played softball and basketball. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, R. Wayne Ward and infant son, R. W., Jr. She is survived by two daughters:Doris Jeanette Ward and partner, Virginia Brown of Philadelphia, PA Edith Ward Boys of Sanford, NC, one son: John W. Ward and wife, Margo of Greenville, NC; three grandsons, Uriah, Isaac and Julian Ward; a sister, Barbara Nell S. Cheek of Goldston, NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Burial will be private.
