Mary Gertrude Harris Ray, 93, of Siler City died Friday, June 6, 2014 at Siler City Center. Mrs. Ray was born in Chatham County in the Silk Hope community on October 28, 1920 the daughter of Dewitt and Letitia (Woody) Harris. She was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and a homemaker. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, J. Van Ray and daughter, Faye Dorsett McLaughlin. She is survived by one daughter: Brenda R. Moore and husband, Wilbur of Pittsboro, NC; son-in-law, Daffy McLaughlin; grandchildren, Richard and Jay Norris, Gerald and Donald Clark and Kathy Gardner. Her loving spirit will also live on through several great –grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:00 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, NC 27344.
