Mary Hazel Johnson

Mary Hazel Castevens Johnson, 91, of Siler City, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023.

Mary was born in Moore County on March 25, 1932, to Morgan and Maudie Brower Castevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert G. Johnson; and sons, Jesse Johnson, Danny Johnson; daughter, Katherine Payne; sisters, Helen Hayes, Kathleen White, Jenny Hayes, and Marie Martin; brothers, Lyndo Castevens and Paul Martin.
Mrs. Johnson loved her God; she was a member of Meroney Methodist Church. She loved her family deeply and they were very close to one another. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren lovingly called her Mee Maw. Mary loved quilting and crocheting and made each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren a blanket to cherish. She also enjoyed gardening and canning, swimming, and fishing.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Judy George and husband, Joe of Moncure, and Janice White and husband, Chuck of Salisbury; brother, Morgan Castevens and wife, Mary Lee of Siler City; sister, Ethleen DiGregorio of Pinehurst; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Meroney Methodist Church, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Linda Yow and Rev. Ben Booth officiating.

Memorials may be made to Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton, NC.
