Mary Gladys Clapp Fesmire, 90, passed away on July 21, 2016 with her family by her side at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Gladys was born on October 15, 1925 to Alfred Jackson and Flossie Clapp of Siler City. She was a nurse who lovingly cared for her family and patients for over 50 years, working for Chatham Hospital and Doctors Parker, Dugan and White. Gladys was a strong woman of faith who loved her church and church family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, The Esther Sunday School Class and the Highfill Missionary Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Brooks Fesmire and her seven brothers and sisters, Mattie C. Nelson, Herman Clapp, Charlie Clapp, Louise C. Dixon, Irene C. Tysinger, Jackie Clapp and Mary Joyce Clapp.
She is survived by her four girls: Sue F. Wilson (Jim), Cindy F. Shaw, Sheree F. Smith (Donnie) and Candace F. Clark Ingram (Mark); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm – 8 pm at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City on Sunday, July 24th. The funeral will be held at her home church, First Baptist Church of Siler City on Monday, July 25th at 11 am with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating followed by a graveside service at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be made to First Baptist Church's Mission Memorial Fund or to Samaritan's Purse.
The Fesmire Family would like to thank family, neighbors, friends and caregivers for the countless cards and acts of kindness everyone has demonstrated to Gladys and her family over the last seventeen months.
