Mary Frances Pickett, 88 of Oak Island NC, formerly of Siler City NC, died Tuesday October 8, 2013, at Ocean Trail Convalescent Center, Southport NC. Mrs. Pickett, affectionately known as "Gran Gran" was born in Chatham County on July 17, 1925, the daughter of Donnie and Paul Blair. She was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of Siler City, a member of the Missionary Society, served on the church board, taught vacation bible school, and helped with the CYC. She retired from AJ Schneierson in Siler City NC. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years Albert Pickett, and her sister Inez Blair. She is survived by one daughter Paula Peele and husband Robert Peele of Oak Island NC, two sisters, Ruby Synder of Siler City NC and Zadie Myers of Greensboro NC; two grandchildren , Michael Stout of Greensboro NC and Alicia Stout and fiancé Neil Cartrett of Charlotte NC ; and "adopted grandson" Dennis Diegel of Greensboro NC. The family will receive friends Friday, October 11, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344. The funeral will be Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the First Wesleyan Church, 608 North Third Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
