Marvin Duane Hart, 59, of Bear Creek died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at UNC Hospitals.
Mr. Hart was born in Chatham County on June 20, 1957 the son of Marvin W. and Shirley (Brafford) Hart. Duane was an active member of Meroney United Methodist Church, a member of the Men's group. He was a 1975 graduate of Chatham Central High School, a member of the Goldston Fire Department, for over 30 years and had served as chief. He was self- employed as a cabinet maker and a farmer. Duane is known and recognized for organizing the Hart's Pumpkin Festival for 24 years. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, going to yard sales, sucker gigging, but was devoted to his family, especially his grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Peggie (Brafford) Hart, one son: Jeremy Hart of Goldston; two daughters: Beth Hart Hamm (Justin) of Bear Creek, Hannah Hart Sirls (Josh) of Bear Creek; grandson, Mason Hamm; parents, Marvin W. and Shirley (Brafford) Hart of Goldston; one sister: Phyllis H. Pettit (Don) of Siler City; one brother: Gary Hart of Goldston; brother-in-law, Donnie Brafford (Donna) of Bear Creek, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Meroney United Methodist Church, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
