Margaret Louise Budd

Margaret Louise Barnes Budd, 100, passed away at home on Saturday, August 20, 2016, with family by her side. Born in Greensboro to Harley O. Barnes and Mattie Weller Barnes, she was the oldest of eight children. She graduated in 1937 from Guilford College where she met her future husband, Kenneth C. Budd. They married in 1938, established their home in Siler City, and operated Siler City Cleaners for 50 years while raising their children. Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Lentzen of the home, and son: Kenneth Budd, Jr and wife Mary Lou of Siler City; two grandsons, Steven Lentzen and wife, Robin of San Ramon, California, and Douglas and wife, Mia Lentzen of Apex; four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Sophia Lentzen of Apex and Samantha and Natilie Lentzen of San Ramon, and two step-grandchildren, Pam Owens and Lori Oldham of Siler City. Margaret leaves behind one sister: Virginia Bennett of Colfax, NC and two brothers, Bob Barnes of Atlanta, and Ralph Barnes and wife, Sandra of Greensboro. This gentle lady was devoted to her family, church, friends, and Guilford College. After retirement, Margaret remained active and traveled extensively. At age 90, she flew over glaciers in Alaska in a Piper Cub; in her 90's she worked with a fund raising committee to help raise $1.7 million to restore her former dormitory, Mary Hobbs Hall at Guilford College, The president of Guilford honored Mrs. Budd's fund-raising efforts with a 100th birthday party at her home. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Siler City on Tuesday, August 23 from 12:30 until 2 pm followed immediately by the service. Burial follows at Chatham Memorial Park.
