Mac L. Martin, 83, of 166 Pat Murrow Road, Bonlee, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center Of Alamance-Caswell, Burlington. Mr. Martin was born on October 23, 1929, the son of Richard C. and Blanche McBride Martin.
Mr. Martin was a native of Wilkes County and retired from the Norfolk-Southern Railroad for 42 years as a depot agent. Mac was an Army Veteran of the Korean conflict, a faithful member of Bonlee Baptist Church, a former member of the Bonlee Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a former Scout Master for troop # 924. He enjoyed RV camping, fishing, woodworking, gardening and traveling. Mac was a handyman, loved family activity, and had a good sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Joyce (Oldham) Martin, three daughters: Linda M. Jessup and husband, Frank of Bonlee, NC, Cathy M. Johnson and husband Kenneth of Siler City, NC, Janice Martin of Bonlee, NC: two sons: Mac L. Martin, Jr. and Tim Martin and wife, Gina both of Bonlee, NC. grandchildren: Jason Martin and wife, Kelli; Dale Martin, Stephanie J. Meadows and husband, Jack, Kent Johnson and wife, Candy, Matthew Johnson, Andrew Johnson and wife, Jamie, Brian Barber and wife Kelly, Michael Barber and wife Kristen, Tiffany Barber, Tabitha Shiflett and husband Wayne, Wesley Martin, great grandchildren: Chloey, Logan and Cadence Johnson, Owen Meadows, Adeline Brooks, Brayden and Charlotte Barber, Sophie Shiflett and Ryan Martin, brother: Richard C. Martin, Jr. and wife, Louise of Simpsonville, SC, uncle: George V. McBride of Jacksonville, FL.
The family will receive friends Sunday July 28, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC, other times at the family home. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Monday July 29, 2013 at Bonlee Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Willams and Rev. Brandon Dobson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery.
