Raeford Elkins, 82, of 91 E. Goldbar Avenue, Goldston died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, Pinehurst.
Mr. Elkins was born in Chatham County on April 3, 1932, the son of Roy B. and Mollie Jane (Gaines) Elkins. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Raeford was an avid golfer, loved tomato sandwiches and was a retired Project Engineer, having been employed by B. M. Hancock & Sons, Wagester-Walker & Thorton of PA., Prestiage Farms of Clinton, NC and Mountaire Farms of Candor, NC. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife: Faye Teague Elkins, one daughter: Gayla E. Stephens of Wilmington, NC; two sons: Rocky Elkins and Rusty Elkins both of Goldston, NC; brother: Oren Elkins of Goldston, NC; granddaughter, Summer Phillips of Goldston, NC; great-granddaughter, Aspen B. Phillips of Goldston, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 12:00 PM -1:30 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston, NC. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mike Garner and Rev. Robert Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph Honor Guard.
