Lydia Ann Moody

Lydia Ann Moody, 83, of Chapel Hill died April 5, 2015. She was born in Siler City and was a graduate of Woman's College, now UNC-G, with a degree in Sociology and Recreation. She studied at Columbia University in New York and received her Master of Education degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Lydia was Everlasting President of her senior class at UNC-G and was a member of the Golden Chain Honor Society. She was a member of UNC-Chapel Hill's Valkyries, the women's honorary society. Education was Lydia's lifelong profession. She began teaching at the Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas, and later taught at the Governor's School in Winston-Salem. She was a high school guidance counselor and teacher in Mecklenburg and Durham public schools. Lydia had a profound love of the arts which she expressed through her personal collection. She enjoyed many friends in the arts community. She was preceded in death by her parents, June S. and Lacy W. Moody, and her sister, Sylvia Doris Moody. She is survived by her sister, Helen Moody Buckner, and two nephews and one niece: Keith Buckner and Gwen Hunnicutt of Greensboro, Joe Buckner and Julia of Chapel Hill, Sylvia Ramer and Kevin of Chapel Hill, and her grandnephews and grandnieces, Kati, Anna, John, Keith, Eva, Zane, and Nell. She adored her nephews and niece and their children and will be missed by all of them. Memorials may be made to the NC Arts Incubator, PO Box 643, Siler City, NC 27344. Celebration of life will take place on Lydia's birthday on Wednesday, April 8, at 1 PM at First Baptist Church in Siler City. The family is being assisted by Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
