Luther Craig Bush, Jr., (Major USAF Ret), age 76 of Silk Hope Road, Siler City passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at UNC Hospitals. He was a native of Roanoke, Virginia and the oldest of four children born to the late Luther Bush, Sr. and Nannie Bush. Luther, Jr. was a career military officer in the United States Air Force where he served in Texas, Florida, Alaska, Delaware, Mississippi, Alabama, Hawaii and New Jersey stateside as well as Taiwan and Vietnam as a radar observer in fighter jets and later as a navigator in cargo planes.
He was married to Carol Johnson Bush for fifty-four years. Their two daughters are Colleen B. Spencer of Vancover, WA. and Sylvia B. Tastet of Apex, NC. Grandchildren are Shane and Troy Spencer and Dylan, Liam and Olivia Tastet. Sons-in-law are Lance Tastet and Tom Spencer. Luther is survived by one sister, Brenda Willis of Bolivia, NC, and one brother, James R. Bush of Bent Mt, VA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald L. Bush.
Luther, Carol and daughters came to Siler City and made their home here in 1976 upon retirement from the Air Force. He was a trained appliance repair technician and owned Bush-Cockman Appliance in Siler City before opening and operating Bush TV and Appliances and Bush Video Store in Liberty until 2001.
Luther was a member of First Baptist Church of Siler City. Graveside funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Dave Pierceall at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 17th at Chatham Memorial Park on hwy 64. Family and close friends are invited to the graveside service.
