Lucille Dark Johnson entered her eternal heavenly home on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the age of 89. Born on February 8, 1924, she was the daughter of Walter West Dark and Mattie (Huntington) Dark. A lifelong resident of Chatham County, she was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church and worked for most of her life in retail sales and as a bookkeeper before spending several years as a caregiver. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 66 years, Samuel Oliver Johnson; brothers Virgil Dark, Wrenn Dark and her twin brother Bryant Dark; sisters, Mae Boling and Betty Smith; and a grandson, Jeffrey Johnson.
She is survived by one son, Edward L. Johnson and wife, Vickie of Siler City; two daughters: Linda Kay Johnson of Siler City, NC, Carol J. Deaton and husband, Don of Siler City; grandchildren, Michael Johnson and wife, Carolina of Charlotte, NC, Rynn Nicks and husband, Luke of Snow Camp, Haley Cox and husband Steven of Coleridge, Jill Oates and husband, Chad of Siler City, Karen Asbill and husband, Darren of Erect; great-grandchildren, Jase Glenn Nicks, Lawson Gregory Cox, Nicolas Samuel Johnson, Brady Oliver Nicks, Camden Marshall Cox, Graham Michael Johnson, Emily Taylor Oates, Amber Raye Oates, Morgan Leanne Asbill, Jacob Max Asbill; sister-in-law, Polly Johnson, and devoted caregivers Wilda Talley and Linda Martindale.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 23, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. Other times they will be at the home of her son, Edward Johnson, 1889 Wrenn Smith Road, Siler City. Services will be held Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Sam Talley and Rev. Alan Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.
