Louise Wood

d. April 6, 2014

Louise "Sis" Brooks Wood, 81, of Country Club Drive, Siler City died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, Pinehurst. Mrs. Wood was born in Chatham County on August 12, 1932, the daughter of Louise Cunningham and Frank Gibbons Brooks, Sr. After graduating from Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, she returned to Siler City, married her high school sweetheart, and established lovely homes where her culinary skills and hospitality expertise soon became apparent to all. She entertained with flair and was acknowledged as a hostess of considerable talent. She was devoted to her family, active in various activities of the community, and dedicated to the First Methodist Church, where she faithfully attended for decades and was a choir member. She found great pleasure in golfing occasions, as golf has always been a family passion. Generations of her family delighted her as they pursued and excelled at the game of golf. She was a gracious Southern lady, generous of spirit and kind in heart. Many also admired her for the tenacity and courage she exhibited while battling cancer on six occurrences. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry B. Wood, Jr.; an infant son, Andy B. Wood; her parents; brothers, Jim and Yank Brooks. She is survived by one daughter: Frankie W. Tate and husband, Alan; two sons: Jerry B. (Twig) Wood, III and wife, Betty, Craig B. Wood and wife, Margaret all of Siler City, NC; grandchildren, Jerry B. Wood, IV, Stephen F. Wood, Craig B. Wood, II, Ashley A. Wood; Lindsay A. Tate and Austin K. Tate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Clyde Denny and Rev. Joe Casteel officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
