Lilly Beth Goldston

Lilly Beth VonCanon Goldston, 82, of Goldston-Glendon Road, Goldston died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Chatham Hospital. Mrs. Goldston was born in Lee County on November 18, 1930 the daughter of Carl and Mary Abby (McBride) VonCanon. She was a member of the Goldston Baptist Church for over 50 years. Lilly Beth was instrumental in taking the Goldston Public Library from one room to a large library with reading and community programs. Her career with Alamance-Chatham Regional Library System also included serving as head librarian at both Siler City and Pittsboro. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Lilly Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Goldston, Jr.; daughter, Linda Faye Goldston. She is survived by one daughter: Katherine Goldston of Cary, NC; two sons: Joseph B. Goldston, III and wife, Maria of Goldston, NC, David Goldston and wife, Wendy of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Geoffry Goldston, Benjamin Goldston and wife, Rosalie, Molly Goldston and Christopher Goldston. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 3:30 PM at Goldston Baptist Church, 190 North Church Street, Goldston with Rev. Mitch Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Goldston Cemetery.
