Lila Womble Brewer, age 97, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, at the Siler City Center. Lila was born in Chatham County on September, 5, 1915, the daughter of Floyd and Dillie Ward Womble. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Cecil Brewer, her parents, and brother, Lloyd Womble, sisters, Leisel Womble, Burdine Womble, Emma Rue Yanchurak, Mary Sue Womble, and Nancy Dunn.
Lila is survived by her three daughters, Linda Merle Ellington (Terrill) of Siler City, Mary Jo Brewer of Winston Salem and Ann Sharpe (Robert) of Charlotte, and one grandson, Matt Sharpe (Julie) of Matthews, NC. She is also survived by a brother, Lynton Womble of Siler City, sisters, Irma Beal and Nadine Short of Siler City and a sister-in-law, Louise Womble of Siler City and several nieces and nephews.
Lila graduated from Siler City High School in 1931. After her marriage in 1941, she devoted her life to her family and home. Through the years she and Cecil provided a home for her mother-in-law, her mother, and her two sisters, Leisel and Burdine. Lila was very proud of her service in the Brush Creek Home Extension Club, serving as president for 18 years. She was also an active member of the Dig and Dream Garden Club and the United Daughters of the Confederacy as long as she was able. When her daughters were involved in scouts, Lila was a Girl Scout leader. Lila was a faithful member of Hope United Methodist Church serving in many capacities. In recent years she moved her membership back to her home church, Loves Creek Baptist Church. Lila was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a very generous and loving sister and aunt, opening her home and heart to them, as well as to many friends. Cooking for family and friends was a great joy to Lila; she was well known for her delicious chicken pie, meat loaf, chess pie, and fudge.
The family will receive friends , Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Smith& Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 2:00pm at Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City, with the Rev. Bob Boyd and Rev. Lisa Wishon officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Bonlee, NC.
