Lessie Bright Carlton

Lessie Bright Carlton, 89, of Burlington died Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Mrs. Carlton was born in Chatham County on July 3, 1925 the daughter of Will and Ida Elsie (Beal) Bright. She and her husband, Raymond Carlton were the owner and operators of a dairy farm. Lessie was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing, traveling and sewing. In her later years she enjoyed traveling with the Gospel group "Called Out". Lessie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; children, Edisel Franklin Carlton, Joyce Lucille Carlton, Raymond Jeffrey Carlton, Kenny Wayne Carlton, Joyce Maxine Johnson, Lonnie and Harold Glenn Carlton; brothers, Lewis Bright, Curtis Bright, Harold Bright and twin brother, Jessie Bright; sisters, Zeta Mae, Retta and Zonnie Bright and Pauline Hart. She is survived by three daughters: Mary Jane Taylor and husband, Billy Ray of Bladenboro, NC, Suzanne Hales and husband, Roger of Siler City, NC, Joanne Gaddis of Bear Creek, NC; sons: Bobby Carlton of Elizabethtown, NC, Roger Carlton and wife, Nadine of Ivanhoe, NC, Roland Carlton of Altamahaw-Ossipee, NC; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 1:30 - 2:30 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. A graveside service will follow Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Meroney United Methodist Cemetery, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Pastor Chuck Perkins officiating.
