Leroy Hammer

Leroy Hammer, 85, of 177 Pineview Acres, Goldston died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Hammer was born in Chatham County on April 26, 1927 the son of John W. and Mattie (Cox) Hammer. He was a member of Goldston Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class and a former deacon. Leroy was an Army Veteran of WWII and had been employed with William Barber Automotive. He enjoyed gardening, wood working, car racing and being with people, especially his grandson. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Beulah (Hancock) Hammer, one son: Douglas W. Hammer and wife, Rachel of Cary, NC; one daughter: Lee H. Allenbaugh and husband, Bill of Chapel Hill, NC; one sister: Evie H. Phillips of Winston-Salem, NC and grandson, Jonathan Hammer of Cary, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Goldston Baptist Church, 190 North Church Street, Goldston with Rev. Mitch Roginsky, Rev. Mitch Watson and Rev. David Hicks officiating.
