Josephine “Jo” Alicia McKeown Rayle, 92, of Greensboro, passed away on Monday, August 12th, 2024.

Jo was born on February 6th, 1932, in Manhattan, NY to the late Thomas and Anna Mooney McKeown. She is preceded in death by her parents and her three sisters, Marilyn Phillips, Sheila Graff, and Nancy Leonard.

Jo was a bookkeeper for many years. In 1982, Jo became a friend of Bill’s and helped found a halfway house for women in Wilmington. In 1987, she started working at Fellowship Hall in Greensboro as a family counselor and finished her work career there. Jo said her most satisfying work was her later work in life. Jo enjoyed working with everyone and really loved helping anyone she could. Jo is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gordon Rayle of Greensboro; her daughters, Joanne Campbell and her husband, Mike of Beaufort, NC, and Shelia Schwartz and her husband, Barry of Asheboro, NC; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City, NC on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, at 2 pm, followed by a private family burial service at Love’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be available one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
