Jimmy "Rabbit" Allen Caviness, 65, of Joe Caviness Road, Bear Creek died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at VA Medical Center, Durham.
Mr. Caviness was born in Chatham County on March 6, 1950 the son of Joseph Allen and Hilda (Brafford) Caviness. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, attended Edwards Hill Friends Meeting and was a retired truck driver with over 43 years of service. Jimmy was an Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam for which he was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He enjoyed working, raising cows, hunting especially quail and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his gift of gab and honest nature.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Merkley Caviness, his parents and a son, James Goodman.
He is survived by his wife: Connie (Hinson) Caviness; one daughter: Sissy Goodman of Cary, step-son, David Chad Jordan and wife, Tasha of Ramseur; step-daughter, Jessica Brooks and husband, Marty of Siler City; grandchildren, Noah Jamison Dunn of St Louis, MO, Noelle Brooke Beattie of Sanford; step-grandchildren, Kayleigh Nicole Brooks of Siler City, Shelley Grace Brooks of Siler City, NC, Kaleb Austin Brooks of Siler City, and his faithful canine companion, Dolly.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 11, 2015 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Edwards Hill Friends Meeting, 92 Ed Leonard Road, Siler City with Pastor Josh Conrad and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
