Jessie Joe Butler Mathis, 103, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Liselotte Care Home, Pittsboro. Mrs. Mathis was born in Guilford County on July 1, 1912 the daughter of Wiley V. and Martha (Surratt) Butler. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church and was a civilian administrative assistance with 20 years of service at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Jessie Joe was preceded in death by her husband, James Alexander Mathis. She is survived by two brothers: Billy Butler and wife, Sylvia of Pittsboro, NC, Morris Butler and wife, Naomi of Charlotte, NC and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Emmaus Baptist Church, 2430 Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro, NC. The funeral will be Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Emmaus Baptist Church with Pastor, Steve Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emmaus Baptist Church, 2430 Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
