Jerry Don Hayhurst

Jerry Don Hayhurst, 71, formerly of Braxton County, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC, after a long battle with Huntington's Disease. Jerry was born on July 12, 1941 in Sutton, W. VA., the son of Donald Arthur and Effie Maude (Carroll) Hayhurst. After graduating from Sutton High School in1959, Jerry joined the Air Force and was based out of McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington and Okinawa, Japan. Before retirement Jerry worked in pipeline and highway construction. Jerry was a Baptist by faith, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a proud grandfather. He is survived by one daughter: Jeri Lynn Hayhurst Young and husband, Jeff of Pittsboro, NC; one son: David A. Hayhurst and wife, Donna of Siler City, NC; grandchildren, Trevor Hayhurst, Brooke Smith, Allie and Teigan Hayhurst and one sister, Jeanie Hayhurst May of Charleston, W.VA. No services are being held at this time. The family will have a private memorial at a late date in West Virginia. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
