James Thomas "Tommy" Williams, Sr., 78, of 548 Cooper Street, Staley died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Williams was born in Randolph County on April 12, 1935 the son of Heber and Dora (Branson) Williams. He had worked for over 30 years at Western Electric and AT&T in purchasing. Tommy was a member of Staley Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was a former Mayor for the town of Staley and a former member of the town board. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sarah Ipcot. He is survived by one daughter: Ellen Williams-Masson; one son: James Thomas Williams, Jr.;sister, Cheryl Williams; brother, Clifford Williams; grandchildren, Katie, Benjamin, Joshua, and Casey; lifelong friend, Joanne Hicks and best friend, Richard Parks. The family will receive friends Monday, November 11, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Staley Baptist Church, 440 W. Railroad St., Liberty with Rev. Clifford Williams and Ellen Williams- Masson officiating. Burial will follow in the Staley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Memorial Fund at Staley Baptist Church, P O Box 237, Staley, NC 27355.
