James Rives

James "Jim" Michael Rives, 59, passed away at his home Monday, August 5, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents Clair B. and Ruby A. Rives; sister, Janette Brown; and brother, Billy Rives. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia "Anne" (Steve) Cantrell of Dunlap, TN and Carolyn Jones of Bear Creek, NC along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. All family and friends are cordially invited to attend A Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 4- 6 pm at the home of Bob Case, 216 Coral Avenue, Goldston, NC. Jim was a lifetime resident of Chatham County and attended Meroney United Methodist Church. He was best known for his love of music and his musical and vocal talents. Jim performed many benefits in the area to include those for families and veterans. The family would like to say a special thank you to his friends Bob Case, William Locklear, "Fireball" and Jackie Burns for their devoted friendship and assistance during his illness. Also a special thank you to Dr. Eric Butler for his continued care and visits, and to Liberty Hospice, especially Charlotte,Tabitha and Tonya, for their compassionate care. Jim was an organ donor donating his beautiful hazel eyes to help others see. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim's name to the American Cancer Society to help with the fight against lung cancer. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
