James Ray Gilliland, 88, of Siler City died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Siler City Center Mr. Gilliland was born in Chatham County on July 6, 1925 the son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Lila (Dixon) Gilliland. He was a farmer and enjoyed raising cows, carpentry work and helping in the community no matter the need. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Brady Gilliland; his parents; sister and brothers, Dorothy Marley, Eunice Moore, Mary Dunn, Bill and Howard Gilliland. He is survived by three sisters: Shirley G. Edmisten and husband, Burl of Bear Creek, NC, Mozelle G. Fields of Siler City, NC, Allene G. Amos of Monticello, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, October 14, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City, NC and at other times at the home of Shirley Edmisten, 1575 Oakley Church Road, Bear Creek.. The funeral will be Monday, October 14, 2014 at 2:00 at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Shutt and Rev. Eddie Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. . Memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 108 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
