James Otis Johnson, 83, of New London died Monday, November 17, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was born in Chatham County on October 19, 1931 the son of Folger B. and Callie (Haith) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church, Liberty. Otis was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed times he spent as a carpenter, farming, riding his John Deere Tractor, being on the lake fishing and riding jet ski. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Patrum Johnson; son, James Otis "Butch" Johnson, Jr.; his parent and a sister, Irene Johnson.
He is survived by daughters: Pamela J. Loftis and husband, Cecil of Snow Camp, NC, Angela J. Kivett and Vickie J. Hallman and husband, A. J. both of Asheboro, ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; bonus children, Chuck Harris and Rosie Blu of Badin Lake; Jamie Yates, Darwin Smith of Asheboro; special friends, Van and Darlene Culberson and Dottie Gaines of Siler City, Clyde and Bobbie Morris of Badin Lake.
The funeral will be Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 3572 West Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Liberty with Rev Derald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service time.
