Silk Hope - James Alfred Lindley, 84, of Center Church Road, Pittsboro died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Duke University Hospital, Durham.
James was born in Chatham County on Feb. 24, 1931, the son of Walter Alfred and Mary Frances Perry Lindley who preceded him in death.
The greatest joy of his life was his family. He made extra attempts to attend all family events, especially sports.
Mr. Lindley was a veteran of the US Army, a 1953 graduate of NC State College and an active member of the Wolfpack Club. He was an active member of Center United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, church treasurer and served on many committees.
Mr. Lindley operated a dairy farm for 25 years, and retired as General Manager from Alamance Farmer Mutual Insurance Company. He was a founding member of Silk Hope Fire Department and a fireman for many years. He was awarded Chatham County Young Farmer Man of the Year in 1961, served as president of the Silk Hope Ruritan Club in 1964, Ruritan Man of the Year in 2003, also serving the Ruritan Club as secretary/treasurer, finance committee and on the Board of Directors for Farmer Exchange (now Southern States) Long Meadow Dairy, Chatham County Soil & Water Conservation, Smith & Bucker Mutual Burial Association and Silk Hope Ruritan Club.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Jeanette Andrews Lindley, daughter: Cathy Lindley Phillips and her husband, Gordon of Silk Hope; son: Jeff Lindley of Silk Hope; granddaughters: Lauren Paschal and her husband, Aaron and Lindsey Phillips; two great grandsons: Nathan James Paschal and Andrew Blake Paschal.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 15, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Center United Methodist Church, 9204 Center Church Road, Snow Camp with Rev. Joseph Parks and David Hobson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
