James Newton Johnson

James Newton Johnson, 88, of Sanford passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Parkview Rest and Retirement, Sanford. Mr. Johnson was born April 14, 1932, a Chatham County native and the son of W.B. "Burlow" and Allene Hinshaw Johnson. James was a member of the Congregational Christian Church. He loved spending time hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling and a good meal. James was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Margie Brafford Johnson; son, Mark Way and wife Crystal of Sanford; brothers, Calvin Johnson and wife Joanne of Siler City, William Earl Johnson and wife Janie of Belews Creek, Charlie Johnson and wife Betty of Cary, and Johnny Johnson and wife Brenda of Snow Camp; and grandchildren Riley, Lila, and Brodie. Mr. Johnson will lie in repose from 12:00-5:00 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery, 1956 Plainfield Church Road, Siler City with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.
