James "Jimmy" Wade Harris, 71, of Pittsboro passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Jimmy was born to the late Wade and Annie Harris on August 28, 1943 in the Silk Hope community of Chatham County, NC. Jimmy was a genuinely loving and devoted husband to Polly, his wife and life mate of 54 years. He was equally devoted and supportive of his two sons, Roger and Greg, in which he instilled his values as a father and friend.
Jimmy loved sports and wanted others around him to enjoy them. No one was more at home on the basketball court, coaching on the baseball field or tirelessly playing in the backyard with his family than Jimmy. The relationships and experiences he formed while playing and coaching were among of the most rewarding and lasting values of his life.
Upon graduating from school, Jimmy started his 45 year career with Sears working his way up to management positions and ownerships of Sears stores in Pittsboro, Siler City and Sanford NC. Always the competitor, Jimmy approached his work the same way he approached sports, striving to be the best he could be and achieving great success.
Jimmy was the youngest of three siblings and is survived by his wife Polly Harris; sons Roger and Greg Harris of Raleigh and their families, including four grandchildren; sisters, June McMath of Greensboro, Frances Cockman of Snow Camp and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
We the family would like to thank Signature Healthcare of Chapel Hill for their patient and gracious care of our husband and father during this trying time. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at UNC Hospitals.
