Jacqueline Thomas Awtrey, 82, of Dorsett Road, Siler City died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at UNC Hospitals.
Mrs. Awtrey was born in Chatham County on September 15, 1932 the daughter of Clarence D. and Swannie (Fox) Thomas. She was retired from Kellwood Company where she worked in the accounting department. Following her retirement she worked as a teachers' assistant in Chatham County Schools with the special needs class. Jackie was a volunteer at Coventry House and Siler City Center. She was a very active member of Loves Creek Baptist Church serving in several capacities. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Imogene Thomas, Mary Jo Thomas and half-brother, Kelly Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Willis "Bill" Awtrey; daughters: Audrey A. Devine and husband, John of Belmont, NC, Lynn Colquitt and husband, Joe of McDonough, GA ; son: Christopher W. Awtrey and wife, Leanna of Liberty, NC; brothers: Byron Thomas and wife, Paulette of Siler City, NC, William "Billy" Thomas and wife, Terry of Siler City, NC; grandchildren, Drew and Lauren Devine, Caroline and Chrissy Colquitt, Hunter Awtrey, Caleb Alcorn and Jace Awtrey and great-grandchild, Blakely Devine.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 16, 2015 from 11:00 am -12:00 pm at Loves Creek Baptist Church, 14680 US 64 W, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Monday at 12:00 noon at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Lewis officiating, words of celebration will be shared by son-in-law, John Devine. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
